Didier

My name is Didier Castelli, I am a Swiss architect born in 1969 and my story began on the shores of Lake Geneva, in the beautiful canton of Vaud. I grew up surrounded by a landscape that still fascinates me today: the Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering a unique setting with their vines overlooking the lake. This environment, marked by the beauty of wine and nature, undoubtedly planted a seed in me that would grow many years later.

In 2017, my search for a peaceful and authentic place led me to Llucmajor, on the island of Mallorca, where I acquired a small finca, a refuge called “Can Encina”. The name comes from the majestic holm oak that towers over the property and provides a refreshing shade in summer. This place of tranquility quickly became more than just a residence - it became the breeding ground for a dream.

In 2018 I met Henri and Thomas, two wine lovers,

who inspired me on this Mallorcan soil

to plant grapevines.

The wine

My entire youth and adult life were shaped by this fascination with wine. I immersed myself in specialist literature, repeatedly browsed through the big wine book that belonged to my father, explored aromas, grape varieties and took part in tasting courses to learn the art of tasting. When I settled in Mallorca, this personal path gained new momentum. There I discovered a little-known but fascinating wine-growing culture and, above all, I was fascinated by the indigenous grape variety “Callet”.

Callet is a rustic, almost forgotten grape variety, once planted by the Romans and almost extinct. It is precisely this history of resilience that led me to make Callet the heart of my winery. Although rare, Callet is perfectly adapted to the island's climate and I have made it my mission to cultivate it in its purest form, without blending, to fully enhance the delicacy and subtlety of this authentic grape variety.

Particularly

My vineyard thrives on the slopes of the Randa hill, near the historic sanctuary that watches over the region.

The identity of our wine is also closely linked to the image of the finca. The label that adorns each bottle changes depending on the vintage and the color of the wine, sometimes it bears the name of the finca, sometimes that of the owner. But one element remains constant: the stylized illustration of an oak tree, the symbol of strength and life. This oak tree, which towers over the estate, is more than just a tree. It reflects the philosophy that characterizes our wine: simplicity, authenticity and respect for nature. Its simple design is reminiscent of our humble and natural approach to viticulture.

Today, “Can Encina” has become the symbol of an exciting adventure. It is the result of an encounter between my Swiss heritage and my new life in Mallorca, between my Vaud roots and the Mediterranean bounty. More than a personal project, it is an invitation to discover a wine that tells a story - the story of a passionate man, an ancient land and a forgotten grape variety that is reborn to give the best of itself.
